A large spice manufacturer announced an industry-wide request for a dedicated design in a multi-nuanced application. They needed a solution tailored specifically to integrate with existing food packaging machines at their Canadian facility.
From the specifications, it was clear the winning auger filling manufacturer must engineer outside of their standard line of machines. The client needed a filler that could handle a complete washdown and change-over in less than one day.
Flat surfaces on a wet machine are difficult to dry. Blown water moves from one side of the machine to the other. This washdown method can take up to eight hours for many products, slowing production.
The AMS Solution
Our team downsized the frame of the machine, reducing the cleaning and drying area. The design, with tubular stainless steel servos, many open areas, and slanted surfaces, lets gravity contribute to the change-over. We designed the augers with external height adjustment which eliminated hardware in the workspace, allowing operators to quickly setup a machine for specific products without repeated questions.
Only the expert engineering troubleshooters at AMS showed an ability to create a solution for the many requirements in this challenge.
The client snatched up the AMS solution and was pleased to see production up and running in 10 months. We “cleaned up,” giving the spice manufacturer a typical washdown change-over in half the time—only 4 hours.
