Prior to our arrival on the scene, two competitors failed to develop a filling machine for this customer’s ‘sticky’ situation. The AMS Solutions Team was called to engineer and deliver a clever solution.
On the distribution floor, we saw two useless machines incapable of distributing the product—gummy bears—to individual rigid containers. Combination scale weighers delivered a complete charge (100% of the product) to the filling machine in one dump. As the product entered, the entire load acted as one big gummy block, bridging the funnel.
The AMS Solution
Our team designed a continuous motion machine. The initial drop of gummy bears are placed onto a vibratorial pan which spaces the gummies into single file. Rotating around a turret, the radial feeder marches each bear toward the final drop into a rigid container.
Due to packaging requirements from a large retailer, the client needed the gummies to fit within a tightly specified rigid container. We added a tamper with plungers which pass by the shoulders, tucking the little bears into the container.
Understandably cautious after two competing manufacturers failed, the client requested a guaranteed output performance. We recommended over-sizing the unit by 25% so the client would know what to expect on every run.
Within seven months, the installed solution was designed, delivered, and operated flawlessly at the Site Acceptance Test. Despite the failure of others, our AMS Solutions Team is proud to “stick” it out with our clients until a clever engineering solution is found.
